Heidelberg Castle Lighting

Saturday, July 10 from 20.00 until 23.30

Don’t miss the rare opportunity of witnessing the beautiful and enchanting lighting of Heidelberg Castle.

The Heidelberg Castle lightings are one of the most prominent tourist attractions of the city and take place only three times a year. The event starts with a light show at the castle which makes the building appear afire commemorating how Heidelberg Castle actually burst into flames in 1689, 1693 and 1764. After the lighting, a 15-minute display of fireworks is launched from the “Alte Brücke” (Old Bridge) in downtown Heidelberg against the monumental background of the ancient castle. The lighting and fireworks can be observed from a lot of different spots throughout Heidelberg such as the grass areas by the river or the famous “Philosophenweg.” A lot of locals bring along their own drinks and food (most of the times a bottle of champagne).

In small groups, guided by members of the organizing team of ICCA10, we will search our way through the festivities, crowds of tourists, and the narrow alleys of the old town in order to catch the best view of the lighting. Expect a unique experience!

Details of the Tour: You will be picked up by a coach at the Ehrenhof (Court of Honor) of Mannheim Palace. After a 30-minute ride, you will arrive in Heidelberg’s city center where you will enjoy the exhilarating atmosphere of this unique event together with members of the organizing team of ICCA10. After the lighting, you will be driven back to Mannheim Palace.
