Tour of Hambach Castle

This guided tour will take you to the birthplace of German democracy and national union, the Hambach Castle.

 

Arriving at Hambach, you will have plenty of time to either walk the castle grounds or have lunch at the restaurant “1832,” located in the castle, or the café and restaurant “Burgschänke Rittersberg,” which is right next to the castle.

Starting at 13.30, your guided tour of Hambach Castle will inform you about the fascinating history and significance of this monumental place where, in 1832, the feast at Hambach Castle sparked off the German movement for democracy and national union, which culminated in the 1848 German Revolution. Your tour will end with a visit of the exhibition “Hinauf, hinauf zum Schloss!” (“Up, up to the castle!”), which documents the events of 1832 as well as their premises and aftermath.

Details of your Tour: You will be picked up by a coach at the Ehrenhof (Court of Honor) of Mannheim Palace. After a 45-minute ride to Hambach, there will be time to walk the castle ground or have lunch. At 13.30, your guided tour of Hambach castle will start. Afterwards, you will be driven back to Mannheim Palace.
